Moto’s Wetherby forecourt features giant “wing” canopy
08 July 2008
The aerodynamically shaped canopy, clad in Douglas fir, covers 950 square metres – almost quarter the size of a football pitch – and will provide protection from the weather for all drivers, including truckers.
Shaun Byrne of specialist contractors GB Forecourts, who built the Wetherby forecourt, said: “It’s a massive structure. It’s certainly the biggest we’ve ever built.”
Beneath the canopy, six islands provide filling positions for 12 vehicles with an additional four filling positions especially for HGVs.
Inside the forecourt shop, customers will be able to buy freshly baked Cornish pasties and premium brand coffee as well as a full range of confectionery, snacks, CDs, magazines and accessories, including clothing aimed at professional drivers.
Located just off junction 46 of the A1(M), the main service area building is due to open within the next two months and boasts the greenest credentials of any service area in Britain.
